e runs through the inimitable combination of traditional Middle Eastern an
d Western elements which characterises Lebanese composer and oud master M
arcel Khalifé’s music.\n\nDeclared Artist for Peace in 2005 by UNESCO\,
Khalifé has always worked to give full voice to the joys and heartbreaks
of a fraught region like the Middle East\, never being afraid to make mus
ic even in the face of war – and his performances in bombed-out concert
halls in his native Lebanon are statement to that.\n\nTonight he is joined
by the Al Mayadeen Ensemble – which he founded in 1978 – to perform
music inspired by the verses of Palestine’s beloved late poet and exile
d hero\, Mahmoud Darwish. Pensive vocals intertwine with hints of jazz bal
lads and symphonic classics\, mirroring the haunting journey of Darwish’
 s words through sorrow\, reflection\, and joy despite mortality.\n\nRSVP t
