He was finally released after a 96-day hunger strike\, a nd an international outcry led by the indignant pleas of FIFA leaders and such famous footballers as Eric Cantona.\n\n \;\n\n \;\n\nAlas\, h is experience is far from unique. Palestinian footballers are routinely ha rassed and humiliated by the Israeli authorities as part of a general poli cy of repressing Palestinian morale and self-esteem.\n\nIsrael actively wo rks to suppress sporting activities in Palestine\, and tries to prevent Pa lestinian sporting talent coming to the notice of the international commun ity.\n\n \;\n\n \;\n\nAfter his release\, Mahmoud undertook an ard uous tour all around Europe. Granted an extended visa by the British Gover nment in recognition of the injustice he has suffered\, he is currently on a speaking tour of the U.K. to support the Red Card Israeli Apartheid cam paign.\n\n \;\n\n \;\n\nMahmoud will be watching Frome Town's matc h against Bognor Regis in the afternoon: kick-off 3pm.
